Recent statements circulating about G.W. Carver Elementary present a misleading and incomplete picture of the school. As a parent and someone who is actively involved in the school community, I’d like to address several claims that do not reflect the school’s current status, performance, or the lived experience of families and students.
This clarification is based on firsthand experience, current data, and open communication with staff and administration, rather than outdated assumptions or isolated anecdotes.
1. Claim: The school is overcapacity and class sizes are excessive
Clarification:
While enrollment has grown, similar to many high-performing schools in Miami-Dade, class sizes remain aligned with district standards. The school continues to meet compliance requirements and remains eligible for admissions as a magnet. Increased enrollment reflects the school’s strong performance and reputation, not poor planning or mismanagement.
2. Claim: There is high staff turnover under current leadership
Clarification:
Teacher mobility is a national trend, particularly after the pandemic and within competitive districts. Despite this, Carver continues to attract qualified and passionate educators. The administration is highly supportive of staff and takes an active role in retaining talent through mentorship, professional development, and a culture of appreciation. Staff departures occur for a range of reasons and do not indicate instability or a declining environment.
3. Claim: Administration manipulates arguments or information
Clarification:
Communication from the administration follows district policy, student safety requirements, and legal compliance. Decisions involving staffing, programs, and logistics are data-driven and aligned with what is best for students. The leadership team is exceptionally responsive and transparent, and they demonstrate care, fairness, and professionalism in every interaction.
4. Claim: There is a culture of oppression or withheld information
Clarification:
Most families experience clear and frequent communication through PTA, SAC, email updates, schoolwide notifications, and opportunities to meet with leadership. The environment is encouraging and collaborative. Parents are invited to participate and contribute, and the administration consistently prioritizes student wellbeing and a healthy school culture.
